Bureau County Emergency Management Agency Presents Two Lifesaver Awards to Z Tour Bike Ride Volunteers.

During the 2017 Z Tour Bike Ride, two individuals went above and beyond the call of duty. Kelly Sissel-Morris was at Zearing Park before the ride and encountered a rider that was choking. Morris performed the Heimlich maneuver and opened the riders airway. Lauren Eckberg was driving home near Tiskilwa and discovered a rider with injuries on the route. Eckberg grabbed shirts from her car and made a makeshift bandage to control the bleeding. Eckberg notified Zearing Command and the rider was transported to Perry Memorial Hospital by Tiskilwa EMS. Both riders have fully recovered and look forward to the 2018 Z Tour Bike Ride.

Bike Safety Quiz

This past June, the Ride Illinois launched www.bikesafetyquiz.com, an interactive resource with brief but thorough quiz-based lessons - one each for Adult Bicyclists, Child Bicyclists, and Motorists. The content, approved by the Secretary of State's Office, covers relevant state laws, safety techniques and how to avoid common crash types. The Ride Illinois has started working with bike shops, bike clubs, driver's education instructors, towns, schools, police and others to promote its use. If you have not seen it yet, check it out and take the quiz today! For those who complete the quiz, a "Certificate of Completion" can be printed out.
